Information About Mold

Mold or Molds are organisms which are neither plant nor animal based. They are part of the fungi kingdom, that grow and form on a multi cellular level.

Unlike plants, molds do not get their energy from the sun through photosynthesis. In fact the sun’s ultraviolet light inhibits mold growth. Some molds can cause disease while others play a very important role in the production and break down in every day food and antibiotics we use.

Mold & mold growth growth requires moisture to thrive. This source of moisture could be from a number of things. The most common water source for mold growth comes from water damage in the home or business that goes undetected.

Molds release spores into the air when it grows indoors, thats why the outdoor number of mold spores is usually higher indoors than it is outdoors when testing is done. Mold spores are so small that we actually inhale them in our the lungs daily. Inhalation of mold spores poses risk of developing respiratory problems further down the road. With the exception of winter months here in Michigan, mold spores are always present outdoors.
