How To Prevent Mold After Water Damage
Step 1. Get rid of as much water as possible. There are several ways to rid your property of the standing water to prevent Mold growth. You can call a water restoration company that specializes in water damage cleanup or you can do it your self with towels, buckets and mops to soak up as much water as possible. Getting rid of all standing water and drying out the area as quick as possible is the most important thing you can do to prevent mold growth.
Step 2. Dry out the affected area as quickly as possible. Once you’ve mopped up or extracted all the water, use fans and a dehumidifier or two to help speed up the dry out of the affected area. If you have a finished basement and the drywall was affected, you’ll probably have to cut holes behind the base molding to expose the areas that were touched by water as the drywall will wick up the water and crumble the paper backing which is a good source of food for Mold.
